Shaping the Future of Colorectal Cancer Screening
At American BioOptics (ABO), we envision a different future for healthcare. We are dedicated to developing a simple, non-invasive population screening test that provides a highly accurate and acceptable model for colorectal screening.
Traditional screening methods often present physical and logistical barriers that prevent people from getting the care they need. We aim to remove these obstacles. By building diagnostic solutions that prioritize your comfort without sacrificing clinical precision, we make the screening process easier and more accessible. Our core vision is to increase screening rates and save lives through early detection.
Our Story and Expertise
A dedicated group of entrepreneurs, expert gastroenterologists, and an internationally renowned biomedical engineer founded American BioOptics in Evanston, Illinois, in 2006. We bridge the gap between advanced optical technology and everyday patient care.
ABO holds an exclusive license from Northwestern University and Evanston Northwestern Healthcare for multiple pending patents. Our scientists, physicians, and engineers bring a unique blend of expertise in cancer cell biology, genetics, oncology, gastroenterology, and optical technologies. This includes cutting-edge methods like Four-dimensional Elastic Light-Scattering Fingerprinting (ELF), Low Coherence Enhanced Backscatter (LEBS), and Partial Wave Spectroscopy (PWS).
Backed by Science and Results
We are proud to have the support of the nation’s leading scientific bodies. To date, we have secured over $16 million in grants from the National Cancer Institute, the National Science Foundation, the Coulter Foundation, and the Steinkoler Foundation.
These investments have financed the development of our advanced prototypes and supported extensive clinical trials involving more than 1,000 patients. Respected medical and technical journals have published our results in 22 scientific papers, with more on the way. Our technology has also captured widespread media attention, featuring in news stories on ABC, CBS, NBC, WGN television, and the Chicago Tribune.
How You Can Participate
While we are not actively soliciting participants for clinical trials at this time, community engagement and clinical partnerships drive our progress forward. We deeply value your interest in our mission.
