American BioOptics is pioneering a non-invasive way to screen for colon cancer. Backed by significant research funding from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, we developed an advanced optical diagnostic test that puts patient comfort first.
How Our Optical Diagnostics Work
Our novel technology shines a safe light inside the colon and analyzes how the tissue reflects that light back. This interaction gives physicians a unique look into the health of the colon lining. It reveals subtle abnormalities in healthy-looking tissue that traditional endoscopes or microscopes simply cannot see.
These microscopic changes include increased blood flow to the surface cells and shifts in the actual structure of the cells. We can assess these changes quickly and comfortably from the rectum. Most importantly, our early human studies link these specific cellular changes directly to an increased risk of cancer.
